Dingbat

Definition

A typographic ornament — a bullet, asterisk, pointing hand, or decorative symbol — often gathered into special pi fonts. The term is an old printers' word of obscure origin. Dingbat fonts include Zapf Dingbats and Hermann Zapf's extensive collection of typographic ornaments.
